[Kohaku has been quiet for a while. She's been in the forest most of the time, to find new things, and animals, but most notably can currently be seen from her journal. Placed at just the right distance away from a new and very pretty tree she found. (Though with a few less colors.) But the silence is broken soon by her laughing. This is something very new to her, even if other people can't hear it, it looks so new.

And the amazement is quite clear in her voice.]

I've seen so many plants before, but this is the first one that I've ever found to have more than one personality!

...I have no idea how I'm supposed to talk to it though...Talking to more than one plant at a time is already confusing enough...


[Then much later in the day-]

Uhm...I've been avoiding asking this for a long time, but...is there anyone that would be willing to teach me how to swim? I've never been in a lot of water, but I always hear that it's a lot of fun...

And it seems a little strange to be so old and have never tried it before...though I haven't tried a lot of things.

Maybe it might be a good idea to make a list of things I should try some day...

[It's certainly useful. He doesn't care about it too much so long as he and his Family are doing fine; better to be rich in familial closeness than actual money.]

But it's so much nicer when there's no need for it...like here. People get to do whatever makes them happy.

They're just normal fish, but parks are places for people to just be around nature.

I manage a casino. So somethin' that relies a lot on people wantin' money.

[Or that special thrill.]

Are you kiddin'? It's a place people go to gamble.

[Then again, it probably isn't her kind of thing, so he shouldn't be surprised.]

[He hesitates; this is a harder thing to answer. Having worked in the casino for years, it all seems so natural to him. And he doesn't want to make her sad for not knowing.]

It's... Have you ever played, like, Old Maid before? You could play it without money or you could bet on who was gonna win--that's gamblin'.

Oh, yes. I know about card games...so gambling just means you play for money?

[Voice]

Pretty much. Everybody puts somethin' in and hopes they get somethin' out of it. Most a' the time they don't, though.

[He sounds cheery about this.]

Why not? [Why would you play a game you usually don't win??]

'Cause it's in the house's favor.

[Hastily (and falsely), he adds:]

Not that we cheat or anything.

But why do they play if they know they aren't going to win?

They like the excitement, I think. I mean, there are some dumb enough to think they'll win, but most people do it for the rush and the very, very small chance they'll get somethin'.

[Voice]

Well at least it's fun.

That's one way to look at it.

What about you? What'd you do back home?

I used to have a job, singing to new angels, but now? I take care of a garden. And I go shopping for Shuichiro, since he has a hard job.

No, just the new ones need to be awakened when they're ready, and only a...[What's a good word to use..?] certain angel can do it.
